We have a res. in the nursing home with MRSA infection in a wound on her heel, we do not have to isolate her, just contact precautions are taken and it is covered with a dressing at all times. I do not believe you have to isolate the infected person unless the infection is in the respiratory tract and airborne precautions should then be taken.
Oh, Ok...I feel a little better now! Now if I can just convience a 13 year old to leave the dressing alone so it stays covered...then he can come back to schoo! :)

Hi fellow school nurses!
I have a question about MRSA. When I worked in the hospital and we had patients with MRSA, the patient was isolated and we had to wear head to toe PPEs. I have two possible and one confirmed case of MRSA and the parent is telling me that he didn't have to be excluded from school itself, only PE. I'm confused! Can anyone tell me???
