Please help me, I would take any advice. I applied to two schools for their LPN programs, one is IVY TECH and the other MVCTC. I had been going to Ivytech and took all the preqs even for the RN program, done (tons of money). Then I applied to MVCTC. I got my acceptance letter from MVCTC first. I took one preq their, dosage calculations ($155.00) dollars spent. Then yesterday I got my acceptance letter for Ivtech and got in their to. Which one do I choose? I am trying to weigh the pros and cons.
Drive: Ivytech is 10 minutes from my house. MVCTC is 45 minutes from my house. (This is important becuase I drive a F350, gas hog. I was planing to sell my truck for a car if I went to MVCTC.)
Cost: MVCTC for a fact is $10,000 (this includs books and everything, they have one big price), I already got my loan because because I got accepted their first. Ivtyech- not sure but people say $6,000 (this is just tution I think, then you have to buy books, uniforms, and etc.)
Loan: I got my loan for MVCTC not sure if it will transfer, it is through a large loan company, salliemae.
Time: MVCTC program is ten months, no CNA program. Ivytech is supposely 12 months, Again not sure. They make you take a CNA clinicals. I have been a CNA for over 4 years.
What should I do? I think I should meet with someone on monday at IVYTech to help me pick which one. I am so confused. Oh yea, I already got CPR certified, and a physical for MVCTC. I am not sure if Ivytech will take that phyiscal because it is not on their physical form. I need some guidance. I dont know anyone that has went to MVCTC but I do know a few that went through ivytech. I just want to be a nurse. I dont plan to stop after LPN, I want to keep going to fast track to the RN program. Both schools have that option. Any advice will be gladly appreicated.

Which Ivy Tech are you accepted at?
I don't know what your other program is by the initials.
I can tell you about Ivy Tech, Ft Wayne. I just graduated in the LPN program, Dec 2006. And I would highly recommend Ivy Tech's program.
I had also looked at taking the Ivy Tech program in Merrillville, Gary, Michigan City, South Bend - We were moving around the state at the time, and I landed at the Ft. Wayne campus.
The courses were small, overall. The teachers above average (with a few so so thrown in, but I think you get that anywhere).
I found the staff approachable, willing to work with you. I had major issues, and they helped me meet my goal of graduation.
And the pass rate is nearly 100% !!!! For both the RN and LPN programs.
Ask your programs what their pass rates are???? Talk to your program director, meet with a teacher, either in person or by email...get a feel for your staff.
I spent a lot of time looking into programs, talking to nurses, and learned of some other programs where you could enroll, be accepted, pay $$$, big bucks, graduate (sometimes with great difficulty), BUT, THE PASSING RATE FOR THE NCLEX WAS HORRIBLE!!! So some of the students spent time, effort, money, and then could not pass their boards...I knew of more than one student who was in this position.
The LPN program is 1 year, RN 2 years...and the cost at Ivy Tech is an incredible value!!! Ivy Tech is a state run community college system, so their costs are awesome. I've now moved away from that area, and am missing the opportunity to complete my RN at such a fine school and at such an affordable price.
Talk to financial aid, they are experts on helping you with your college loans. If you have a government loan, and it sounds like you do, you may choose to spend your $$ at any campus, just has to be one college a semester. So they can tell you how to transfer to whatever college you choose to attend. It's a coding number on your web account??? I think??? It's been a while since I had to change the coding for the college I was attending, again, ask your financial aid dept.
I can't state how happy I was with my educational opportunities at Ivy Tech, and after, my classmates are well received in the work force, since Ivy Tech has such a great reputation for teaching, and having their grads pass boards.
Hope this helps!!!

Thanks, I got accepted in Richmond, I live really close. The other school is Miami Valley Career Technology Center. It's a CC in Dayton, OH. I took all my preqs (LPN and RN) at IVYtech, so I went there for about year and half, so I know almost all the teachers and staff, which I like all of them. I know just the directors (from my interviewing process at MVCTC) and my dosage calculations teacher. I liked all of them also.
Both of them have very high passing rates. MVCTC I know is 98%. I am a straight A student. I dont get finanical aide due to my parents makeing to much money. I live with my fiancee but not married and no kids. So i have to go off my parents income untill I am 23, or get married or have kids. So a loan is the answer.
Thanks so much. I am so confused. I really like both schools. MVCTC starts on JUly 16th and Ivytech starts August 20th. I have already went from full time to casual at my job starting july 12th becuase i thought i was going to MVCTC

Congratulations. I don't know anything about MVCTC, but I am preferential to IVY Tech. I attended Richmond for both Lpn and RN. They are just great. With the gas prices today, I would probably pick the closest. Here (hopefully) is a link for their pass rates for NCLEX: http://http://www.in.gov/pla/bandc/isbn/asn_pass.html
As for changing the financial aide, don't worry, that can be done. Just ask the financial office of Ivy Tech, if you choose to attend there.
Good luck.
