I haven't studied at all for the TEAS yet, but I wanted to take a practice exam just to see where I stood. How do the ATI practice tests (in the book, not online) compare to the actual TEAS in terms of difficulty? I took Practice Exam 1 in the ATI manual and got these scores:
Reading: 35/42 (83.33%) with 17 minutes left
Math: 27/30 (90%) with 13 minutes left
Science: 39/48 (81.25%) with 33 minutes left
English and Lang. Usage: 26/30 (86.66%) with 16 minutes left
I'm applying to a traditional BSN program that only looks at the overall/composite score, so how would I calculate that from these scores? Would it just be an average of the 4 sections?
The average score for people accepted to the program I'm applying to is around 83%, but I'd like to get a bit higher than that, just for my own sanity (plus I still have 4 prereqs left, including micro and physiology, so I'd like to get a high TEAS score just in case I suffer a small GPA drop). Would it be reasonable to aim for about 90% (give or take) overall by Jan 10 (the next test date at my school)? My school does allow unlimited retakes w/o penalty, but you cannot retake within 40 days of your previous attempt, so that's why I want to take the Jan 10 test. That way I can have 2 retake opportunities before scores are due in case I need them, whereas if I take the next test date after that (Jan 24), I would only have one retake opportunity. Any advice on which date to take?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
The ATI book tests are not as difficult as the ATI online test. The online test is a much better indicator of how you will do on the real exam, and the format is similar to the actual exam as well. I made 90's and above in each section of the book tests then did an online test and failed. What I suggest is you do is take the online test and then take screenshots of each question and answer and dissect the test. For instance, just b/c the answer is 'A' on a question go through and find out why its not b,c,d,e etc. This will give you a good overview of all material. I ended up scoring 98th percentile on the actual exam.
The science portion of the actual test was much easier than the practice test (online)
The grammar was harder, so was the math, and I was really surprised at the difficulty of the reading portion on the real exam.
I ended up with 30 sec's left on that section, they gave me very long paragraphs and the material was presented in a different way than just reading and answering.
As far as the overall grade goes, I think you just avg. the 4 but I will go look at my teas print out and get back to you.
FYI - I avg'd my four scores and it matched.
