U.S.A. New York

Hello New Yorkers!

Im a foreign graduate BSN-MD and would be practicing as new grad RN. I was offered $25/hour by an agency here in Manila. Is the offer good enough?? I heard most of the nurses are offered a salary of $30 and above.

What is the average salary for a new grad RN?

Benefits I should have? what are the things I have to ask and clarify from my recruiter?

Can anyone refer a good agency that can help me process my papers?

any nurse-md out there?

:o

Hi, $25 is average...I make $28/hour for days and $30 for nights in NY.

Thank you for your response...:)

Did you accept the offer.

I would not even get out of bed for $25/ hr. Are they providing housing? Medical bnefits?

A new grad with a BSN in NYC at the majority of hospitals make at least $29/hr days and an additional $2.50/hr evening or night. This is medical benefits, tuition reimbursement, 403b and a few additional perks.

An agency nurse without any benefits can make $35-$45/h. It may depend on your area of specialty.

Try www.nursingspectrum.com for additional agencies. Don't be afraid to negotiate with agencies. So what if you need your papers! There is a big shortage here, we need RNs. You are the one in power.

Another avenue is calling hospitals directly and find out if they will sponsor you.

If you have already accepted the agency's offer, Good luck. You can work perdiem to make up the difference.

oops did you say practice as a graduate nurse. Did you take your NCLEX yet?

Hi Kjt,

Thank you so much for the reply. I have accepted the offer. A friend of mine did a round of the agencies and the offer we got at 25 is one of the highest being offered here in Manila. and I am considered as a new graduate with only 6 mos experience. There are benefits like night differential, overtime, sign in bonus and reimbursement of fees.

yup i have taken and passed all the exams like cgfns, nclex, ielts, visa screen.

Its just that i applied in BON-Ca...i hope the reciprocity works with new york.

Thanks again!

I will be going to a job interview for an RN position in a hospital. There are pre-employment tests involving med/surg medications and math. I am a new nurse and have no experience yet and was wondering what tools I could use to review before taking this test?

I will suggest you take out your pharm book and study: drip calculations, conversions ie. 1oz=30cc etc, common drugs ie. lasix, digoxin, etc.

Some hospitals make you take the test before the interview and if you don't pass it they will not interview you.

Where and when are you interviewing?
