HELP! I'm interviewing for ED position

Hello! I'm interviewing for an ED position. I'm a BSN new grad. What kind of questions should I expect to answer besides the regular interview questions?

Featured Replies

When I interviewed for the new grad job I got in the ED, the only one that I can think of that she asked me that other floors didn't was to relay a time when I kept my cool in an emergent situation. She also asked me how well I handle criticism and what I might do in a situation in which an experienced nurse or doctor was criticizing me, whether it was constructive criticism or otherwise.

My new grad nurse residency interview asked a bunch of random questions I wasn't prepared for! They asked what super power I would like to have most, what I would do if I had 6 pt's and one of them was scared and asked me to talk with him, what I felt the most important qualities of a nurse were, and how my friends would describe me.

They were questions I was definitely not prepared for... but I found out today that I got the job, so I guess I didn't do too badly! :) Good luck.

Congrats Trauma16! One of the random questions that I was asked in another interview was who my best friend from the nursing class was and if I thought they would make a good nurse and why. Kinda threw me for a second till I realized what they were REALLY asking hahahah

Thanks so much! I'll try to think of some answers to those questions JUST in case :)

Mention teamwork in your answers and be able to give examples of how you utilize teamwork in the workplace (clinicals, past job). Here are a few I was asked:

1) why ER? Why xxx hospital?

2) name a time when you used patient communication. Be able to give an example.

3) what is the most critical patient you have taken care of? What did you help do?

4) have you used computerized charting? Which software?

5) name a time where you made a mistake and what did you do?

Hope that helps!
