Help! Grad Theory Question

Published

Hi Everyone,

Need some other views on a question that I was presented with today. Here it is, and, thanks in advance for your input.

1. Why do you agree that the 'four nursing metapradigms' of nursing (person, environment, health, and nursing) are appropriate as the basic framework of our discipline?

2. Give an example of how each might relate to your practice.

Thanks again

You need to read which theorists wrote this and apply the theory to a clincial setting you feel comfortable with, alex

Person, health, environment and nursing are the 4 concepts in the nursing metaparadigm as proposed by Jacquiline Fawcett. The phrasing of your question suggests that you don't really understand what a "metaparadigm" is. If you go to your textbook, you will probably find a discussion of this metaparadigm and it should make more sense to you.

Does your textbook discuss Fawcett's metaparadigm? Once you grasp what is meant by "metaparadigm," then you can begin to answer the first question.

For the second question, it's simply a matter of taking each of those concepts and discussing how they apply to your practice. Who are the people you care for? What are their characteristics and health problems? What is the environment? etc. Only you can discuss your own practice.
