Help me find a NICU job in Philly!

Published

Hi everyone! I really need some help here. I interviewed at CHOP last week. I have been in contact with them since November. 2 phone interviews, an in person interview, and shadow day later (coming all the way from Boston), they sent me a 2 line email telling me they "hired a canidate whose qualifications more closely match our current needs". This is to a new grad position and I did my internship in a NICU? I don't understand what I did wrong - being a new grad is the worst! Anyways, I am still looking to move to Philly from Boston and need some advice from you guys on where I should look. I dont think I will apply to another position at CHOP. I'm a new grad BSN. I don't know the area well, so anything will help!! Or just advice for a new grad trying desperately to get a job! Thanks so much!!

Leesh-- I am ao sorry to hear about CHOP!! I hate those rejection notes too, they are so impersonal and upsetting. I'm really hope you find your dream NICU job.

I too am hoping to land a job in NICU in Philly... However, there aren't many places that will hire new grads into that floor besides CHOP. Jeff has a good NICU, but I think they are on freeze still. I did see one position at St. Christopher's Children's hospital a few months back, but don't know where it went form there. I also hear that Holy Redeemer in north philly may be expanding their NICU in the near future so it might be worth looking there... Good luck!!

I just left philly. I worked at hospital of the university of penn. many people don't know that they even have one but level 3 35 beds. you work with all of the same attendings and residents NNPs that work at chop you get to have a lot of delivery experience there. I left in october and they were still in hiring freeze but spoke to one of the nurses still there and Very busy and alot of nurses have recently left, so there may be openings. Also i interviewed at st. christophers awhile back and the pay scale is less than other areas and the area surrounding that hospital is not a good one to say the least. Hope this helps!

I just have a question, I am in a similar situation and I have a shadow coming up....what was the shadow day like...did they expect anything from you or was it more just to see how you interact?

This is such a frustrating situation for so many of us!! I hope you find something!

Hi! Sorry it took me a little - if you didnt have your shadow day yet -- you don't do any patient care really. Yoou follow a nurse on the unit around as they do their patient assignment. I would just act interested and engaged and like you like the unit and would like to be there! I'm not sure what they look for because I think that's what I did but I also think they interviewed a lot of people so I'm trying not to blame myself too much! You will do great just be yourself!! If you already shadowed, hope it went well! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! Hope you got it!!!!!
