We have a short essay assignment where we are to write a journal response to the article provided by our professor. I'm having a hard time determining the appropriate tone for the essay.
Before I email my professor for clarification, I asked a few of my classmates and thought I would ask here. The prompt is along the lines of "explore how the author supports and validates (insert topic)"
I can't tell if this calls for a reflective piece or a summary. Thoughts?

I don't think it should be either one -- reflective or summary. I think it should be primarily analytical -- probably including some reflection and examples from the article to back up you key points.
Thank you for the help. I was able to complete my paper once I had idea of what I was going for. Much appreciated!!
I was having a problem because of the article content. There was minimal evidence to support the topic. Mostly it was anecdotal observations from the author. Turns out I was really over thinking the assignment.
