Welcome to the ranks!
Believe me, you're lucky to have gotten the first job you applied for, especially in this market.
Hi GI-RNCongratulations! Tell me, did you know where you wanted to work before graduating or did your experience in nursing school change that? Do you recommend applying straight to the area you want to work in or is the age old "do your time on the floor" still apply?
Thanks.
If you have the desire to work in a particular specialty area, go for it. Really, gone are the days where you have to "do your med-surg time" before moving on to a specialty. I would however, recommend it especially if you're wanting to go into critical care, even ER. The time on the floor gives you a chance to hone time management and assessment skills (you learn to rely on your powers of assessments rather that numbers and machines...) prior to be tossed in with the sickest most difficult patients in the house. But that's just me.
