Hello; starting a nursing career...

U.S.A. Kansas

I've been looking into nursing. I've thought about it for probably 4 years, and have decided to start looking into it a lot harder.

Do any of you know what grants are offered?

I'm considering the KCKATS course, and would like to more about it. How many hours/day is it? What hours are they?

Did anyone work while attending the classes?

How did it effect your life, school and work?

Thanks in advance for the information. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Daniel- I was in the same boat as you about a year ago. I started my nursing school search at Concorde Career Institute (I was furloughed from my airline job and this is an accepted school through the Workforce Investment Act, or WIA, which I encourage you to check out at the Workforce Development Center), passed my test and then was put on a waiting list. I then went to Sanford- Brown. This school was expensive, not covered under WIA, a far drive for me, and all in all not a good fit. But no waiting list! Seemed acceptable. Then I discovered ATS. This school is not only close to where I live, but incredibly affordable. The staff is wonderful. Please save yourself the time and look into ATS first. I passed the assessment test (WorkKeys) and was put in the August 2004 class. Yesterday I received a letter saying that there is room for me in the May 2004 class- Yipppeee!!! I believe that classes run 7:30 to 2:15 everyday, 5 days a week, but am not sure about the times. I can't answer the other questions you have as I haven't started class yet, but I know that there are other Kansas nurses on this site that have. Best of luck to you, hope that I have been helpful and not terribly long winded- feel free anytime to PM me. ATS phone # 913- 627- 4100. Dawn

Thanks for the help, I thought I was without an audience, there. I'll definitely look into ATS (this week). I appreciate the help! :)
