Hello quick question

I am excited to say that I start my nursing program this August but I'm a little nervous since a lot of people have been telling me to kiss my social life good bye and begin to marry this program lol seriously am anxious to start.! So I was wondering what books should I read or brush up on before I start my program? What are good tips you would give for first year nursing students and also please recommend some study tips that have helped you succeed thus far :)

I would take the time to learn how to master read or speed read. I would also be able to perform assessments of all body parts before attending class being sure to be able to do a head to toe in addition to each main system. You can youtube it and just watch videos until you can do it comfortably. Just watch the videos and then practice until you do it easily. This way when you go to clinicals you are comfortable.

Don't be nervous, you will be fine. Nursing school is definitely hard work and your social life will be diminished but that doesn't mean you can't plan on having fun. It's all about moderation. Give yourself free time because is important to take breaks from all the studying. As far as review, I would say if you really must then review your A&P. But I would say to just enjoy your free time now because you'll have enough studying to do once you start. Don't believe everything you hear, people's experiences are different and you will do what works for you not what works for others. Good luck with everything!!!!

If your professors have provided you with a syllabus ahead of time, try to mark where the readings are for each week. The program requires a TON of reading, and once you start classes you will learn how to prioritize which class is more important than another one. I would take the week before school to relax--school is intense, but totally worth it. Best advice would be to stay organized! Write down due dates of assignments, evaluations, and everything for the semester as soon as you know. Stay on top of it. :)
