Hello! I'm here for some information/advice/guidance.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, I recently graduated college with an associate's in criminal justice, but it honestly has not helped me find any kind of decent job. I have been eyeing nursing as an option to go back to school for and was kind of hoping for some kind of advice. Maybe some info on grants, how to work while in school, getting a foot in the door, anything really.

Thanks for reading and any responses.

The first place to start is researching local nursing programs and see what the prerequisites are. You will likely need to do several science courses (at least) since your current degree is unrelated. Then start plugging away at those prereqs at your community college. And maybe contact local hospitals for volunteer opportunities to see if the medical field actually interests you too!

I'll definitely start there then. The closest university to me is the University of Florida and I believe they have a lot of programs. I don't know if I can find time to volunteer, bills to pay and what not. Could trying out CNA be a way to test the waters sort of?

Couldn't hurt! I was a CNA when I went to school for my bachelors degree (in social work). And I definitely felt like I got my feet wet. It isn't going to give you the experience of being a nurse persay (only shadowing a a nurse could do that) but it is a starting point.
