hii (: im new to this community so bear with me!
question: i am entering the associates r.n. program at howard community in the spring. after all is hopefully completed successfully and i get situated at a hospital, i later want to go for my bsn.
i was going to try and apply for a rn-bsn at umb hopefully, but i wanted to know about the difficulty of getting in. i found some threads that kinda answered my question, but not quite.
this semester is my last semester finishing up prereqs for nursing. however, i got a C in anatomy lecture 2 and dont know if i should take it over again.
when applying for rn-bsn later in the future, will they look at my transcript and say i have to take over some of my classes because of my "C" (such as microbio, a&p2, and some electives)
also, another question, i retook a handful of prereqs (mainly science classes) for a better grade. will they admissions look down on that and hinder me from being accepted into the rn-bsn program in general? (not only in umb but other programs elsewhere).
please let me know asap so i can decide whether or not i have to retake a&p 2 lecture this summer.
thanks a bunch!

Hello! I am also going to be doing a CC program (CCBC Essex perhaps) and then transfering to an RN-BSN program (JHU SON...perhaps?:) but right now I am only a high school senior.
Yours is a good choice! Save money, and you could even go as far as to get your MSN while your at it! :)
Admissions are ALWAYS looking for the higher grades, however if you know that you absolutely tried your best and that if you went back you may not do any better- Have that specific professor write one of your letters of recommendation. That way that teacher can say 'she gave it her all and stayed focused' etc. Then the college knows that the grade was not just a result of the student not being diligent etc.
UMB has a total GPA listed on their site (which helps you out greatly!) Here is the link: http://nursing.umaryland.edu/programs/rn-bsn-ms/rn-bsn-criteria.htm . Just be sure that you have a "science" GPA of 2.5! If you dont meet that, they also have on their app that you can be enrolled in courses still. It sounds like they have your transcript but as long as 'sciences' add up to 2.5 GPA, you should be fine.
UMB should not look down on you taking classes over again! That, to me, is showing that you are on top of things and know what you must achieve to get to your goal! UMB should take note of that as a sign of good determination, because you did not give up! You have perservered through still interested in Nursing, which a lot of people drop out of these days!
All in all, you may want to retake the a&p lecture, just to get your GPA as high as possible. Hope I helped!

good news. i don't think they will turn you down if you retook your preq's or if you got a C in A&P when you apply for RN to BSN. They WILL look at your ADN transcripts and they expect a 2.5 (I think) minimum. I have been told by the undergrad admissions counselor that they are very generous at UMB for the RN to BSN program.
Focus on doing well in your ADN program. Have you already been accepted there? From what I was told, if you do well enough to gain admission to the ADN program, your pre req scores are fine.
Good luck!

Hi akkay11!
Have you tried speaking to one of the nursing advisors at JHU-SON? They would definintely be able to tell you what the school is looking at when evaluating transcripts. I would call them today. Here is a link to their admissions page http://www.son.jhmi.edu/apply/Default.aspx . They have a ton of resources for prospective students.
Also, I noticed you will be starting the nursing program at Howard CC. Congratulations to you!!! I have to finish my prereqs this fall and next spring. Then, I can apply for the Fall '09 nursing program. I'm most certain I'll be waitlisted because I live out of county--- but at least I can look forward to Fall '10.

I am taking pre-reqs at Howard as well. I don't think that we will be necessarily waitlisted next year. I have a friend that was accepted for Fall 2008 and resides in PG County. So this gives me great hope!
Oh, WOW! Me too! I would LOVE to be able to start the program FALL '09. I'm applying to the evening/weekend program. How about you?
Yes, I am going to apply for the evening/weekend program as well.

I would not worry about a BSN program for now. I would concentrate on the associates program. Nursing school is very difficult to get in so if your college accepted you with a "C" I wouldnt retake the course. Good luck in your program.
gab.rielle & clhRN, thanks for all the help! even after reading i still felt torn b/w re-taking a&p 2 lec and not. sooooo, i took it and then dropped it after a week.
thanks denicu. after reading that i just felt more content and sure that i wasn't gonna worry about retaking a&p and instead just concentrate.
if anything, i'll re-take if they make me/suggest me to when applying for rn-bsn.
mamarayna, thank you!!!
good luck to you and fallon! i applied for fall 2008 and got into spring 2009 for HCC'S rn day program! and i live out of county. so good luck to you both! (:
thank you all for all your help. seriously, without your advice i would be taking a&p 2 lecture AND a&p 2 lab right about now drowning in my own sea of tears. but for now, i feel less stressed and just going to concentrate and move forward! haha.
good luck gals & guys!
