Healthcare IT employment

Specialties Informatics

Hello,

I have recently been looking to pursue jobs in healthcare IT. The companies I have specifically applied and interviewed with are PtCT and McKesson. It appears that the nature of the job I am applying for as an Implementation Specialist, require travel 6 nights out of the month, if not more. I have yet to discuss salary requirements for these positions and was wondering if anyone new the salary range? I have a good job now, which ranges in the mid-50s and would only take this new job if they offered me a significant amount more. Because not only would one of these positions require me to relocate from the Pittsburgh area, but also the job itself seems pretty demanding.

Another question....Do these types of jobs require years of experience in Information Technology? I have only been an R.N. for a little over a year now, although I do have another bachelor's degree in Rehab.

Sorry for all the questions, but this is something I am, really interested in. Until a few months ago, I was truly unaware of the MANY opportunities for nurses in the field of information technology!!!!

Thank you:)

Specializes in Everything except surgery.

First, stating that the position is to be an "Implementation Specialist, does not really give enough information. That would be the same as someone saying "I am a nurse". What kind of nurse, specialty, ..etc. Titles do not really tell you too much of anything about a position.

Second, do you have any IT background?? How much healthcare experience do you have?

One last thing; Salaries in IT are like nursing, varies greatly depending on where you are, your experience, the demand, and the employer.

Good luck!
