Hello all, I am trying to get my ducks in a rows to start my traveling career this spring/summer. I am wondering what travelers use for health insurance coverage since we travel around to different states throughout the year?

I know I have the option of Travel company provided, but would prefer to get my own so as to not switch every time I work with a different company. Not to mention, it isn't free, as some "advertise" but taken out of the pie of income. I will be paying for it so I might as well get my own unless there is an incentive to go with company provided. I am just wondering if there is a nationally recognized? insurance?

Any input/advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have private insurance through Anthem (BCBS) that has excellent nationwide coverage. You can also go with agency health insurance, before the ACA kicked in (and probably still), some travelers picked agencies by their health insurance. COBRA is still in force and you can extend your current insurance for up to 18 months. You can also purchase insurance on a healthcare exchange.

Thanks-- I will most likely Cobra at first, unless my insurance has poor out the out of network coverage.

I looked at Anthem , but they wanted to quote me based on my address/location.

What is a healthcare exchange?

The marketplace for insurance as mandated by the ACA.
