HCCC nursing program

Published

Hello overachievers! I am going to begin the nursing program process and I will try my best to talk about my experiences and the steps that I will be going through until the actual entrance of the program (with faith).

Well let me start by giving a little background. I was in Bergen Community College and completed all the classes besides the nursing courses first before I began the program. I have 55 credits from there right now. I was accepted into that nursing program and received 72s on my exams and on my overall grade for the pharmacology, basic concepts, and fundamentals of nursing courses. And that is a F because everyone needs a 74.5 to pass. So I was automatically dropped out of the program.

I have since been trying to get into other nursing programs with no success because for some reason people who failed a nursing program are not accepted into many schools and other schools have took out the RN nursing program from their schools.

I spoke with someone from Hudson County Community College today and they said that I should start by transferring my transcript then start the application process for the nursing dept. first. I have left a message and hope to get a call back in about a week or I will go there personally.

Like I said before; receiving a 3 F's has dropped my GPA to a 2.38, something like that thirty something not sure but I was told when I called today I must take 7 credits from their school cause they only except 30 credits. And those 7 credits are not including the nursing program classes. So I plan on taking a few electives or a course I can easily take to raise my GPA. I was also told that you need a 78 to pass the nursing courses and I will have to take the NLN(National League of Nursing) entrance exam. I took the HESI in BCCC. Every school is different. I will update my comments when I hear back from them : )

Please do post about your process. I looked on the website I have most of the classes as well and I would like to get into the program. Hopefully they take my credits I go to college of Staten Island. I would love to start nursing school and HCCC is looking like my next plan.

Also quick question what is the process the website is so vague

Hey girls. I too am doing the process. I applied to Hudson. I'm a transfer student and finishing up the rest of my prerequisites that I will be taking this spring and summer hoping to finish before the fall because I am praying to get accepted to the nursing program in Christ Hospital for Fall2015. The process from my knowledge is to download the application and in the application it explains to you step by step of everything you need to hand in. Once you've collected all of you're documents, you mail it in an wait for a reply either by mail or email. I believe next they send you information about the nln pre entrance exam. Once you take the test your results show immediately and they will also receive your score. Once you get accepted than you undergo the interview, orientation etc. as well as handing in the remainder of the documents required to get into the program. You will also be able to choose the day or evening division... This is all the information I have gathered from my own research and other people who have entered the program...

Hi Everyone!! I apologize for taking long to update my progress. Well so far I have transferred my credits which have been reviewed and accepted but they only accept 30 credits and you must take at least 7 credits of a course in their school even if you don't need any other courses. I also took my placement exam for the school. I only need to take the math portion because the English classes I took in Bergen Community College and they were accepted but the math that I took was 012-031 then 035-036 which was all I need for Bergen but in order to have the math be accepted you must to a M100 or greater to be considered college level. Soooo... I took the math test and they were never specific on what the test would be on. They only said to study a program on their website called EdReady which I did. And the program had so much so I was studying that program for wks. feeling bad because that was taking my time away from the NLN test studying. I called they am asked about if I needed to know all the formulas and weight converstion etc. But they just said no. "None of that will be on the test". So I said I'm over studying and I need to get this over with. I went to take the test and it was arithmetic and geometry. I hardly studied geometry so of course I failed by 2 points but got 100 on the arithmetic. I still need to take a college level math course which will go toward my 7 credits which I need anyways. I have been studying the NLN which I thought would be like most test I've studied for like the HESI but its not! It sooo hard and I feel like I need a tutor. So I'm trying now to study as much and as fast as I can so I can pass it in time to be accepted into the program this year. They said, " there is no deadline. You just need to pass the test before the spaces fill up". Argh! = (

Godzpeeiouzgem1 do you know when is the upcoming test date for the NLN PAX?

When is the next RN pre entrance exam in New Jersey? Someone please! It hasn't been posted on the national league for nursing site. I don't want to miss it.

I don't know when the next test date is but I can tell you I have been trying to study the NLN PRE ENTRANCE EXAM book and it is impossible to me. I understand the math mostly and science but the reading and vocab is insane. They give you a sentence with a difficult word then the multiple choice answers for u to choose from are more weds that I don't know. I called HCCC and they said there is a class to help study and it begins April 25th for $209. I don't know if I will be able to go cause I have car problems now and I live far from there so that's all I know now and I will let u guys know if I start the class. But if u wanna know the next test date call the school. Take care and God Bless

I now this is old but I thought I could share. I am currently a Nursing student at HCCC. I am pretty much done w/ my pre reqs just have one more to go. I took my time to get things done since have kids. I took that class you were referring to and to be honest it really didn't help much I just took the NLN yesterday and my overall score was a 130 I plan on going in today to ask what it all means. The book I studied from was a great help for the math with the verbal you simply need to learn what words mean they also asked a question about homonyms. The science was where I did the worse luckily I answered all 80 questions but you need to know someting in chemistry and physics and anatomy. GL
