HCC Coleman ADN or LVN

Published

Hey guys,

I am trying to get into the Spring 2014 ADN program at HCC Coleman. The deadline is very soon, August 1st. I have completed all the prereqs and all academic classes except a&p 2 and microbiology. I have a 3.5 GPA. My TEAS V scores were a 73 in math, 78 in reading, 76 grammar, and 54 in science. My total score was a 69.3. I do know that the ADN application requires a 64 minimum grade in each subject.

My question is: If I apply for ADN program with my TEAS scores, do I have a chance of getting accepted even if my science score was low?

I cannot retake the TEAS before Aug. 1st because the test dates are all full. I am HOPING that when I apply, my prereqs and other classes I took will sort of ”make up” for the low science score. I even have my CPR certification scheduled for next Fri, which gives me just enough time to get all my paperwork together and submit it by the deadline. I have the required shots done and physical. I just need the drug test and background check, which I will pass.

Is there any chance of me getting into HCC Coleman Spring 2014 ADN program, or should I get my hopes up and look towards LVN program? I have not done the LVN prereqs of VNRNSG Allied health (something like that). I only have ADN prereqs/academics behind me! I am stressing out...I don't want to get my hopes up...I'm 20 y/o with a 1 year old baby and I am using Hazlewood to cover my tuition! So I have till age 25 to use it up! Sorry for rambling but I am just really stressed, anxious, and I don't know whether or not I should give up on ADN and look towards LVN...

I would recommend contacting the nursing department and to also attend one of the information sessions. I know that when I went to the info session last year they really stressed the points of making sure that all prereq's are complete and the minimum teas scores accepted. That being said, they may go ahead and approve you to take pharmacology this fall which would allow you time to retake your teas. Definitely wouldn't hurt to speak with someone. Good luck and don't give up!

Thanks for replying! And I emailed someone at the ADN advisor line. Hopefully she replies today. I am going to Coleman next week to deliver my application packet and speak with a counselor.

I would never encourage anyone to give up on their dreams and settle for LVN. Nothing against the LVN program but if ADN is what you really want then do not settle. I would see if you could retake the test ASAP and try for a better science grade.

Also five years is plenty of time to get your ADN. Then an RN-BSN (assuming you wish to take this route) would take 1 additional year.

Thanks for your advice! I will do LVN for spring 2014 then work and go for an LVN to ADN or find an LVN to BSN program. I just really need to get the ball rolling since I have been in community college since I graduated high school in fall 2011 and I only been part time since I have a baby.

They will not accept you into the program unless all sections in TEAS are a minimum of 64%. They won't even accept your paperwork/application since it does not meet the requirements.

I would take the TEAS as soon as you can and submit it to the ADN department.

if you can't get into the adn program for this spring i'd do the lvn and then just do the lvn to rn transition, that will allow enough time to retake your science part of the teas and get that score up. That's the route i'm taking not because of test scores but because i'm itching to out of my current field and into the medical field and the lvn program will get me in scrubs sooner lol. Good Luck!
