Has anyone taken the NLN Exam???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Has anyone taken the NLN exam? I am taking it tomorrow. Is it generally easy .. like do most people pass the test or have you had to take it a few times??

Well, have you studied? Do you know your stuff? (Math/Science/Vocab?) Did you have the NLN Study Guide?

Now, I am not "everyone" and I took the test 4 times. The 3rd time I got an 85% which probably would have gotten me in eventually, but wanted to improve my score to do better, and this 4th time (Just took it August 28), I got a 92%.

I wouldn't say the test is "easy". You need to know your stuff and in my opinion, the best way to study for it is the NLN Pre-Entrance Exam Study Guide, so if you have not gotten that and don't get in with this score, I would recommend buying the Study Guide!

Good luck tomorrow and let us know how you did when you get your results back.

i have the study guide and i am generally pretty good at math and science ... verbal not soooo strong in. lol is the test pretty close to the practice tests in the book?

The study guide is definitely the closest to the actual test. The NLN Study Guide that is!! I've gotten so many different ones, but a lot of the stuff in the books that I got do not go along with the NLN test.

My suggestions...stick with the NLN Study Guide only...I think the others may only confuse you and will have you studying things you don't need to know for the NLN.

Vocab was my worst part as well. I took the test four times and all four times, I did HORRIBLE on the vocab and that is what always brought my grade down!!! This last time, I only got a 61%! But I ended up with a 92% overall on the test because I did so well on the Math (94%) and Science (97%).

Do what you can to study for the vocab. Read their suggestions for the Reading Comprehension and study the roots/prefix's/suffix's as well...that may help some. And even if you think your a shoe-in for the Math/Science portion, still read over all of that. There may be some things in there that you did not learn in your classes!

Best of luck to you!

Oh, and one other thing. It may not be a matter of people not getting passing grades, but it really depends on your school and what their procedures are in accepting students. Our school is mainly on this test and the cutoff is generally between 83% and 87% (which is why I wanted to improve my score a little), but other schools may be higher!!

Best of luck tomorrow - try to just be relaxed and just know that there is nothing more you can do than what your doing right at that moment. The first two, I was so stressed out, but the second two I was fairly relaxed and I did much better on those two!!! I know it's easier said than done, but your brain will me more "open" if your not stressing!

Well .. the way that the described it to me was that it was done off of the composite score i believe. So it wasn't necessarily how good I did but how good I did compared to everyone else I believe and I had to be in at least the 50th percentile .. if that makes any sense at all.

Ask a non-nursing student and that would make NO sense at all...:lol2: But I understood every word!!

If your curious as to what they cutoff normally is, I'd call the school. Yes, they compare you to everyone who has taken the NLN test...that is how they score you.

I got a 92% and that came out to a composite score of 133. So, if you call the school and they tell you what the cut-off normally is, then you can somewhat figure out where you are at. My last score was an 85% with a composite score of 124.

I think I have always gotten at least over 50% on all. I believe it is the same with our school - need at least 50% to even be considered.

well they said as long as i get a 50 that i get put on the list ... and then it goes in order that you took the test... it doesn't go in order of who did better than each other as long as you get that so called passing score. thats why i was going to this school lol.. i will be put on the list for clinicals as soon as i get that score ... i believe lol i will definitely let you know tomorrow hopefully. i take the test on the computer at the school so they said we get the results immediately but i am not sure if that is the comp score too.

Got it...yes, that is different than our school!

On a computer? Really? I didn't know they did that!!! Well, best of luck and I look forward to hearing tomorrow how you do!!!!!
