Has anyone taken the new GRE?

Hi all!

I plan on taking the GRE in December. I'm applying for a MSN-E program and one of the schools requires the GRE score. I have taken it once about two years ago before the new version. I still have the Kaplan book that I purchased when I took the older version of the GRE. Does anyone know if I can still use it to study?

Also, if anyone has taken it, what book did you use and how did you prepare for it?

Thanks so much!!!

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a Kaplan book that I purchased last year. It's called GRE Premier 2011. I also have a Barron's GRE book but I think I need to stick to one or the other; I'm going with Kaplan. In the Kaplan book, they discuss the changes on the Revised GRE. Here is my understanding of the changes according to Kaplan:

-Quantitative section has online calculator (great that you can use a calc but the questions will definitely be harder)

-Verbal section has completely removed the Analogy questions and the Antonym questions. This has been replaced with more reading comprehension and argument analysis quesitons.

-The scoring scale is slightly diff

-The average time it takes to complete the test is 30-45 minutes longer

I haven't taken it before so I don't know how these changes compare. I'm planning to take the MAT and possibly the GRE within the next few months. After you take the exam, let us know how it compared to the old version.

Awesome to hear that the analogies section is gone!!! Whew!

I was on the GRE website today and they don't recommend using the older version of prep books. They have free prep materials that you can download from the website.

The new version, like you mentioned, will have a calculator AND you're able to go back to change answers as oppose to having one shot at answering a question.

I will definately give a review of how this new GRE is compare to the older one. My test date hasn't been set yet but I'm aiming for December.

I took the new GRE in September and it wasn't so bad- I bought a new Kaplan book that was helpful, but the online stuff on the official GRE website was even more helpful. It allows you to download software that gives you an official test and I thought the information was very thorough. I also found some very helpful formulae for review at ecalc.com. My results are supposed to be available Nov 10.......
