I have never worked L&D. I have always worked in ICU, but I have worked with some nurses who transferred from L&D to ICU. They were fantastic. We absolutely loved having them, especially when we had pregnant patients. (L&D always sent someone once a shift to check the patient, but the ICU nurse was ultimately responsible for them.) So having an L&D trained nurse working in the ICU was awesome. The L&D nurses did a great job learning the ICU specialty and excelled at it, but like LovingLife123 said, they all eventually quit and went back to L&D. Then they had awesome ICU skills for the L&D department.

High-risk L&D RN w/ 5+ years of experience. Learning is lifelong, so Im ready for my next step. Considering ICU because I have always been drawn to the sickest patients. Has anyone made this significant of a switch? Thanks!
