Has anyone failed a test? I need some encouragement!

I am so upset. I have a 83.3 average and have been doing so well on the test but I failed my first test tonight by a 1/2 a point. I am still a 80 average but I feel like junk. I am a 1st semester student and I have to admit I changed alot of my answers. I feel like if I fail now...how will I ever make it further!

I am really upset. First time I cried over a test.

You might have to tweek some of your previous studying skills for the program, I know I have had to. You are in your first semester and are probaly trying to adjust to the new testing method that nursing school uses. You probaly want to look over your test too if your instructor lets you. See what you might have missed while studying, or what you didn't understand.

Keep your head up...and don't be upset about it anymore, instead use that energy and start studying for the next test. Good luck, it happens to all of us!

Don't let this get you down! I am in my 4th semester and I failed my one and only test 2nd semester with a 68. I worried and was very upset, but my Advisor told me to let it go...it happened, it was over. Dwelling on it will only harm you on the next test. I took her advice and I have never failed one since.

Also - Don't change those answers!!! Go with your gut! That is the best advice I can give you. If you've studied and you know your content, there is probably a reason you went for that answer.

Good luck and hang in there!! :)

I have to say that I know exactly how you feel! I had a test the day before yesterday, and while on my other 2 tests I got 2 Bs (84 and 90), I managed only a D on this last one! I was just over 2 points away from a C, darn it . (I made 72.68 and a B is 75).

Needless to say, I was very, VERY perterbed and upset. I thought I was done, since our policy is that we have to make a C average among all of the tests or we fail. Luckily my average right now is 80%, so if I do well on the final, I might finish with a B overall. That's what I'm shooting for.

I used to be a perfectionist when it came to my grades. I wanted only A's, and that worked for most of the pre-reqs, untill my last semester of micro, where I made a B. (A high B, but still a B). Nursing school changed that though. Now I'll be happy to get a C!

So, what I am getting at, is don't let it get you down! Be happy that you have an 80% average, and so you're still in the running! It's like my grandpa says, "An A's dandy, but a C's handy." :lol2:

Good luck with the rest of your semester! I know you'll make up for you're last test with an A :D

Don't worry,

When I was in nursing school, I failed a major test in my second semester (Fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base balance). I was so discouraged, since I studied obsessively for it!

It was not the end of the world, and I went on to graduate, and become a nurse.

The harsh reality is that up till nursing school, I had a 4.0 GPA, and was ultra confident in my abilities as a student. Nursing school was a very rude awakening, and a humbling experience. I learned that just because I could ace tests in my prereqs, didn't mean that I would do so well in nursing school. I was a good student, my bedside care was (according to my instructors) exceptional, but the book learning stuff came hard, due to the fact that I had to relearn how I studied and answered test questions. No longer could I just regurgitate memorized facts! I actually had to apply critical thinking, and decide which of several potentially correct answers was the best one. Tough stuff!

One failed test will not hurt you. I graduated with a very respectable GPA (Just shy of honors), and am doing fine. The funny thing is that when in clinicals, I could look at labs, etc. and know what was going on, but you would'nt know it from my grade on that test.

Chin up and remember C=RN!

I failed several test. Sure, I don't have a 4.0 anymore, but I'm graduating in a month!

Please don't let it get you down. First semester is a real challenge because everything is so new. Keep at it and you will be fine!

Best of luck to you!

And remember: A, B, or even C = RN

Were the answers you changed to the wrong ones?

If that is the case, then it's an easy fix...do what you did before.

Rarely, when I change my answers, do I change them to the right ones.

I did this week :banghead: And now I have to bust my butt so that I can PASS this class. Because I have no intention of failing the class and having to drop back a cohort. At this point, as long as I get a C I'll be happy.

I did have a B average in all of my pre-requisites. But pre-requisites and nursing school are 2 very different things. I don't like the NCLEX style questions, they drive me batty. But- it's a fact of life, and I am slowly getting the hang of it.

How did I fail it? I blew an entire section on the lung. THEN I went and started erasing answers on the lung (and many of them were right ARRGGGH) b/c I was nervous

We've got a test next Monday. Let me tell you. Between stressing out over passing the next unit test, AND the fact that I have to re-do the dosage calculation test (and if I don't pass it, I can't pass meds in clinical on Tuesday) I am more than ready for this class to be over. Even if I do like the teacher (which I do).

Silly32girl, try to flush it as soon as possible. I do understand where you're coming from; I'm in my last few weeks of my final semester and have failed 2 tests (66 & 78.... where I go to school, anything less than 80 is failing). And this was the first time I cried over tests as well. But try to let it go. In the whole scheme of eternity, it's not going to make a bit of difference, and you will have other tests that will make up for this one. Just store it in your head as you're studying for boards, that it is an area to review extra carefully for.

And please........... don't beat yourself up anymore. None of us are perfect or ever will be. Just keep plugging away and you'll (we'll) do fine.:nuke:

my advice let it go...

You do not have to be a A student that is not what makes a good nurse.

I "failed" a test and got real upset untill I embraced the concept that I do not need to have the best grade in class anymore.

Quess what there is no gpa listed on my RN license.

That does not mean do not study hard you study your heart out and shoot for the A always. but hey if you get by nursing school and walk out with C's noone will know or care.

trust me once school is over-- The "wonderful world" of Nursing awaits and yea I say that with sarcasm a bit as I am a new Nurse and let's just say school and what your going to face after grad.. exams are the least of what I would get upset about. school is tough.... dealing with pts 12 hours a day that is where you reallyyyyy have to do those count to 3 exercises and bridle your tongue. sadly you often also have to watch what you say to co workers as well. med surg nursing is so great I can't wait to leave it lol.... sorry not trying to burst a new students expectations you'll see soon enough...

What is the lowest passing grade you can make? At my school it's a 73, a 72 is a fail.

And yeah, I had a 4.0 until this semester. It's frustrating.

Our school is 75 or better. I have to let this go. I know that in Nursing school it is a total different ball game. I will not let this get me down in fact I will try to learn from it and kick butt on tests to come. Everbody says....Nursing 1 is the easiest and I am sure that is true but to all Nursing 1 students is quite hard when you are a Nursing 1 student. This test was on Communication, Medication, Documentation, Elimination, Fluids, Electrolytes, & Acid base, Mobility, Sensory. It was 70 questions and I studied FOREVER. I even skipped my birthday. Only 3 people failed out of 28. I was one. However I did have the highest grade out of the three. hahah 74.3 ..... .7 from passing. Well....let me stop complaining....Has anyone failed a first semester test?:nurse:

Thanks everyone!
