Has anybody gone to Galen?

Published

Hi, I am at my second university, and am thinking of transferring to Galen college of Nursing in Louisville. At my first university, I was only three semesters away from graduating with my BSN but then life happened and now I am back home in Louisville. Anyways, I am currently at U of L but want to transfer to Galen or another school to get my RN. does anyone have any thoughts on Galen? or any ideas of other schools around here that provide RN or BSN programs? thank you!

Greetings Rachealmaria4,

I'll start out by saying I am a little suspicious of any school that runs multiple schools throughout the country. In other words why are they trying to hog up the educational landscape? It begs the additional question are they really that good? Well, in most instances where you find multiple campuses under one brand the answer is usually "no" because they are that bad and greedy too.

I went to (collegescorecard.ed.gov) and looked up the Louisville branch. They do seem to have very respectable graduation and retention rates.

According to Wikipedia ( stop groaning academicians) they offer a two year associates degree that can get you up and running in the biz. My one concern was the cost but after research it seems reasonable. I have provided you a link: Galen College of Nursing-Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky - Tuition & Cost

There may be something here that doesn't meet the eye but as of yet looks good and keep me posted if you like.

I do know they advertise on "allnurses" a lot of schools do, some of which I just say to myself "not them again, they need to quit, oh boy, let my people go!"

PM me if your inquiries produce more transparency. In higher education this insight will always provide you with the keys to the kingdom.

I am very sorry you got so close at your other school to the BSN. It is no consolation but I have humbly made it my mission, with the generous forbearance (most of the time) of "allnurses," to help inform my colleagues and future colleagues of their educational choices to the best of my ability. (along with other cockamamie opinions)

Unfortunately higher education has become a predatory business, some "schools" much worse than others. So make your choices informed ones and know what you are getting into so these nursing dreams I so often hear about can become realities and not nightmares.
