Hi all!
I have an interview at Harlem Hospital Center coming up and I was wondering if anyone who works or has interviewed there could shed some light on the interview process. Do they ask many behavioral/situational questions or more straight forward questions? Should I expect to take some type of pharm/med math test? I'm a new grad and I'm very nervous. Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :)

I interviewed with 3 HHC hospitals 2 years ago when I was a new grad and was hired at one in Brooklyn. Their interviews ask you about experience with patients and problem solving....both in terms of patient care and getting along with other staff and also patient satisfaction with care. They all ask similar questions. What is different is the pharm exam...they all have their own. At Metropolitan, I did not take a pharm exam, I got to the second round of interviews for ICU however they went with hiring two RNs with over 3yrs of experience each. At Elmhurst, it was very easy...basic calculations. At Kings County, where i was hired...it was a lot of detailed med info and administration including IV solutions, blood transfusion, chemotherapy, etc. Good luck, I find the HHCs more welcoming of new nurses. I also interviewed at private hospitals but i felt more welcome at HHC hospitals.

Sorry I'm confused. Harlem hospital center has multiple locations? Or does HHC stand for home health care or something else? Thanks!
It seems you are not familiar with NYC. NYC HHC stands for NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation. Its made up of 11 city hospitals/healthcare facilities, when you go to the HHC employment website you will see postings for all hospitals and facilities. Coincidentally...Harlem's initials are HHC but it is also part of NYC HHC as it is a public city hospital. NYC HHC has hospitals and facilities in all 5 boroughs. Ps. When i posted that i interviewed at HHC hospitals...they are all hospitals not home health. NYC HHC also has a home health division but it is called home health and not hospital.

HHC stands for Health and Hospitals Corporation. It is the whole network of government hospitals/health care facilities in NYC.

Hi, I was just wondering where you guys submitted your resume for the HHC hospitals? Did you submit it through the HHC website or just faxed it to the numbers listed on the website? I have been applying since March and I have not received any response. It was frustrating when I called the HR department because they also didn't seem to know were to send the resumes to as well. Does anyone know the process how HHC hospitals hire?
Thanks. Best of luck to you NYRN92!
I Applied online. I woudn't advise faxing as it can easily get lost in the shuffle of papers that is an HR office. At least online it's available without getting lost and it can easily be seen /tranfered to managers. My interviews were all with unit nurse directors ...not with HR. But HR screens apps and sends the ones they like to the nurse directors.
Thank you estrellaCR for your prompt response! I have applied to at least 80+ positions on the HHC website now and I have not received a single response. Its just very frustrating. Every couple of weeks, I try to fix my resume again and hopefully will get something, but still nothing. I guess I will continue to try again.
Thanks Estrella! Nope, not familiar with NYC, just moved here a couple months ago!

Hi Estrella,
I recently got an email for an open interview at Kings County hospital. I was wondering if you can give me some pointers regarding the interview. What types of questions did ask and do they hire you on the spot? Thanks!
I did not go to an open interview. Mine was an individual interview with the nursing director of the department and they let me know a week later that I was hired. Interview questions depends on the department...I bypassed HR interview so I do not know what they ask. I did not know anyone at any hospital but my department called me directly 3 weeks after I applied online without having to go through HR interview.

Hi. Just wondering, did you get to take the hiring exam from human resources??
