Hello,
basically i would like to know if it is difficult to get a job in a hospital in austin.
as a fairly new Rn. i want to find a job before i move. Does anybody think theres a good chance that once i apply i would get a job within 3 months of applying.???? (plan to apply online to hospitals..etc..Seton, brancenridge. others.) or is it more competitive or just not enough positions that once i apply i may not have a job offer for longer than 3 months.? i dont know anybody in Austin to ask about it.
I will be moving to Austin Texas or surrounding area, and i would like to work in a hospital in austin.Been a Rn for a few months. was lvn for 5 years. i have not been in a hospital setting in almost 3 years though. I Have never worked in acute care setting. Have worked in long term care acute and hospice. I would like to work in a large hospital and start out in medsurg floor and somewhere where i would have a preceptor or training for a length of time. 6 weeks..-3 months.
Basically i want a job where i can start out as a RN1 i guess some may call it . i may have more experience than a rn with no nursing experience..and i dont expect to be treated as a total brand new nurse..but i do want to be hired in somewhere where they know that although i am not a new nurse..i am a new Rn with little real acute care experience so i want them to know there will be questions and i may not be familiiar or have knowledge of some things.
Id appreciate any thoughts on it. i just hope it doesnt take too long to find a job.. its just me and my child so i hope that things fall into place okay.
thank you

You probably will not have a hard time finding a job in a hospital here - at all.
Brackenridge is owned by Seton. I'd recommend applying for jobs at St. David's and Seton for med/surg jobs, then follow up with phone calls.
Good luck

I agree! Plus, once you have filled out the applications don't get discouraged if you have not heard from the Seton Network after several weeks. In fact, I'd suggest making a visit to a specific Med/Surg Dept. Director as a follow up. I know the interview/hiring process at Seton Main can drag out.
Really CG? Just show up to the department of choice?
I'm still hopeful about a future with SMC, but I haven't been pursuing employment yet.
Hope you're doing well!

Yes, once you have submitted an application for a specific job opening to Human Resources, then do a follow up with the actual Med/Surg Dept. your applying. Take a copy of the same application, or resume with identical info, with you when you attempt to make contact with a Director. Be persistant, yet not pushy. However, don't wait around waiting to hear from them.
