hard to find job in austin hospital?
Hello, basically i would like to know if it is difficult to get a job in a hospital in austin. as a fairly new Rn. i want to find a job before i move. Does anybody think theres a good chance that once i apply i would get a job within 3 months of applying.???? (plan to apply online to hospitals..etc..Seton, brancenridge. others.) or is it more competitive or just not enough positions that once i apply i may not have a job offer for longer than 3 months.? i dont know anybody in Austin to ask about it. I will be moving to Austin Texas or surrounding area, and i would like to work in a hospital in austin.Been a Rn for a few months. was lvn for 5 years. i have not been in a hospital setting in almost 3 years though. I Have never worked in acute care setting. Have worked in long term care acute and hospice. I would like to work in a large hospital and start out in medsurg floor and somewhere where i would have a preceptor or training for a length of time. 6 weeks..-3 months. Basically i want a job where i can start out as a RN1 i guess some may call it . i may have more experience than a rn with no nursing experience..and i dont expect to be treated as a total brand new nurse..but i do want to be hired in somewhere where they know that although i am not a new nurse..i am a new Rn with little real acute care experience so i want them to know there will be questions and i may not be familiiar or have knowledge of some things. Id appreciate any thoughts on it. i just hope it doesnt take too long to find a job.. its just me and my child so i hope that things fall into place okay. thank you

No I wouldn't recommend nursing
i am thankful for the profession and to be a nurse. no job is perfect or very few are. Each has its pros and cons. However i wonder if i would be happier in another profession. Too much stress, backbiting, gossip, grown people who act like they are in high school, patient load too much. And when a mistake is made or something forgotten its like people forget about the good you do and focus on the bad. I like helping people and even though sometimes the patients themselves can even get to me (i think its just the workload at times though) Overall its like its the people that we work around and all the other crap i mentioned that can really make it more stressful and/or unhappy. i have left the hospital and i dont miss the mess, gossip all the crap involved, the workload..i will go back sometime soon. i miss a lot but in a sense i dont.. i have more peace now. would i recommend nursing? well if i could only choose yes or no..then i would have to say NO... but it does have its positives and a lot has to do with your mindset.
