Halfway through the PN program!

Hi everyone! I'm a nursing student in a 10 month PN program. I started the program in late August of 2012 and so far I am doing well...However, I have been having a bit of trouble with critical thinking skills. I know this is a skill that takes practice. Hopefully I will have that "aha" moment soon. I would like to improve. Does anyone know of any tools that I can use to better this skill, or is it simply a matter of time and practice?

Everyone is different and I think it involves a little bit of both. You could look in your NCLEX-PN book as well as use the cd rom that came with it and practice the questions you could do analysis, knowledge, appliance, etc. One tool that I use is the ADPIE, I look at the type of question and what it is asking for then I go through my nursing procress OR, I use my ABC's and Maslow's pyramid to answer my questions and it has helped me a lot even if I didnt know the answer to the question and I have gotten them right. I also use the process of elimination and then choose the best answer out of the two good luck :)
