Hair style

Published

Hey all,

During nursing school I had a small mohawk (roughly half an inch?) and the sides of my hair like a two. I hope the measurements make sense. Anyways, I shaved it awhile back due to the concern of scaring patients and or fellow coworkers. Lately, I have the urge to get it back and I don't like the look of the fohawk. I want to have my mohawk again. I will soon be working in the intensive care unit, and I'm wondering what my fellow nurses think of this? It would be a small mohawk. I'm trying to end the stereotype of people with mohawks are aholes.

Thanks.

My ol man is a southern biker through and through. yep...that means long hair, tats, and no one but no ones gonna mess with his club patches (called colors). He went in a few years ago to have an EGD and was a nervous wreck. Well...his nurse came into the preop holding area and he breathed a big sigh of relief...the guy had long hair and tats too!...lol...I thought that was funny to see the relief on his face. I also have tats which I keep covered at work. No one would even guess that I was a biker ol lady. My home life and work life stay seperate. The one thing I personally don't like at work is nurses who wear perfume. I have a child that has asthma and it really bothers her.

can I post pics on the forum? Once I get a camera I can post some.

Try photobucket and link.

If you are wondering what your co-workers will think, simply ask them?

Also, you may want to ask your nursing manager if there are policies regarding hair styles...I know that some hospitals require hair to be off shoulders, etc...

Sometimes you have to ask yourself...If I have to ask the question then I already know the answer.

My personal opinion? I try to focus on the personality, not attributes.

That is a buch of old-school BS.

My interpretation of your response is that of snobiness and exactly why many people opt not to go into nursing. While I agree that we have an obligation to be professional, I don't think painting everyone gray is the answer...

If that is the case, then no nurse should wear make-up, wear those "cute" nurse uniforms, mandated to wear a hat to cover all the hair...

Get a grip and a life.

I think there are a lot of nurses that are quite shallow!

Starting to remind me of the Republican VP candidate...YIKES!

This is the proper reply...

It doesn't matter what people's opinions are...it matters what the policies state

Everyone else...need to keep it professional and not discriminate!

So true! I have pics from the weekend and I'm just waiting for my friend to give me them.

i really had hair problems when I go to work, haha

My first post here. I didn't read through every post, but I've got long hair and wear a pony-tail or braid that falls midway down my back. I keep it clean. I've never had any problems from anyone, even those elderly, "uptight" patients. While I agree that the "professional is never out of style," I also believe that most people are now able to look past hairstyles and look at the person. IMHO.

A great nurse up on the med surg floor has hair just like that. A redhead. He is a fantastic nurse and I've never noticed his hair other than...oh he has long hair. :)

i usually have my hair short, but for a month i had a faux hawk, but then i got tired of combing and cut it short again, alot of the female employees liked the change tho
