I feel so dumb. It has been one rough week. I work at a clinic, so we do not get a whole lot of action. We maybe get an IV once a week if that-so I do not have a lot of experience. First, the pt was to receive 2 bags of LR's. First bag ran and it ran all the way out. The pt's husband yelled at me and said he was calling for me...anyway...a super nice doctor got the second bag going without having to d/c and poke the pt again.. and to make matters even worse, when I went to disconnect the IV I didn't close off the line. So when the cath tip came out it squirted the pt in the face...I felt like a jacka$$. I just can't get over it....I just keep running it thru my head over and over again. Ahhh, I feel so dumb...I feel horrible. I mean the poor pt was sick and here I make a stupid mistake and squirt her in the face...So some IV tips would be appreciated

In all honesty I use to do that every time I switched IV bags while my teacher was watching. Once you do it once or twice you will remember to clamp it before d/c or changing bags :) To remember changing the bag maybe you can write down the time on a piece of paper (or your hand)...but write it down like 15mins before hand so you don't come in to late!
