H&H questions

Published

I'm looking thru some of the records I got from the hospital, lab work and such. I saw the thread about lowest H&H, and also someone elsewhere referred to my H&H as being low (though thankfully my blood doesn't look like weak Kool-Aid yet! :stone ).

What exactly do I need to look for on my hematology reports, and is there some conversion or different scale that I've missed? Any tips and pointers would be appreciated, thanks. Any questions just ask!

Tom

PS: Yes, I asked one of the docs in the hospital, an infectious diseases specialist about it. Short version, he said, was that anemia is frequently a common problem secondary to a severe infection like mine, and SHOULD resolve within a few weeks, otherwise it would bear further investigation. I'm worried about it a bit b/c I've been out of the hospital since Thursday, my boss is already throwing open shifts left and right at me and I'm still utterly tired and exhausted - just feel like sleeping all the time (which I did most of the weekend). Think that could be the IV med I'm taking (2g Cefazolin IV q 8hrs)?

Sounds like you got really good info from the doc at the hospital. What does your own doc say? (You are on IV Cef--surely you have a personal physician.....)

You are taking a pretty heavy dose of antibiotics, which tells me that your body is having to work very, very hard to kick your infection. Plus, even though it is obviously a good and necessary thing, antibiotics can be hard on one's system too.

I would suggest that you a) eat enough of a well balanced diet with plenty of protein, b) take a multivitamin daily, c) get plenty of rest and d) make sure you laugh at least one really good laugh each day.

Avoid overworking.
