Gwinnett Tech 2023 Nursing Program

Just wanted to see if there was anyone out there applying for the 2023 nursing program at Gwinnett Tech or has already taken the program! Submitting my application in next week ?

?Congratulations!! Such an exciting time

Wish everyone the best! I got into Gwinnett Tech but I also got into Lanier tech. It's really difficult finding information on either program. Can anyone share any details or thoughts on either program? Thanks in advance!

Thank you!
So I read from a previous post that they require white leather/waterproof shoes, curious if you can tell me-do they need to be leather? Or is closed-toed waterproof acceptable? And is this requirement just for clinical or clinical & lab?

Congratulations!!
There are some previous threads, perhaps on the 2022 GTC where current students give info on the program. Maybe you can find one for Lanier also.

If I were you, I would take into consideration what the distance/commute would look like for you & what the NCLEX pass rate is for either program...

I'm in the same boat! I will say that I took prerequisites at Lanier Tech and Gwinnett Tech and I appreciate the operations at Lanier Tech more. Overall, it appeared to be a more organized and responsive school.  However, I knew a woman who worked in the Nursing program at Gwinnett (2 years ago) and she said the Nursing program at Gwinnett Tech was less disorganized than the school adminstrarion itself and they truly cared about your success. I also see that they're a more established program and have a high NCLEX pass rate. I'm really torn about which school to attend, especially because it's so hard to find information about other people's experience in the Nursing Program at Lanier. I think I'm leaning more toward Lanier Tech. I just enjoyed my experience there more. When you decide, let me know! ?

Hopefully im replying to your comment Samantha and not just making another post LOL. I read on reddit that lanier tech was organized so that's good to hear you're saying that as well! I'm sure Gwinnett is great as well since theyve been around longer, but commute wise, Lanier is more ideal for me. I also looked up NCLEX pass rates and I see 97% for Lanier and 95% for Gwinnett which are both great. I know Lanier is a newer school but each cohort is also smaller so that may be a good thing as well? Lmk know as well when you decide!!

OK I misspoke on the NCLEX pass rates. It looks like in 2021 and 2022, Laniers pass rate was 100% and 84.21% respectively and Gwinnett was 91.55% and 89.66% respectively.

They say leather but the main goal is to be waterproof. Definitely avoid any mesh areas because things do spill. I also had a patient that was throwing his feces. Better safe than sorry! The requirement is just for clinical. For lab, you will wear black scrub pants, a solid dark colored top and any close-toed shoes

Gwinnett tech is a tad bit disorganized. There are a lot of new professors and the program director is also new. She is currently our mental health professor. She is incredibly sweet but getting her footing. Our new med surge professor has a lot of great ideas but is kind of confined to the practices already in place. The pharm professor is tough- this is her second semester teaching and she has a lot to learn. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot and use outside sources for this class. I strongly suggest Nexus Nursing on YouTube. She covers the textbook that we use. I would actually start reviewing prior to the semester starting. There are over 100 drugs for the 2nd exam. The first exam covers history, policy, classification etc.

Lecture is on Tuesday 9-12 and 1-4. Attendance is not mandatory but that may change- Lab on Wednesday or Thursday and Clinical on any other day. If you have a clinical or lab conflict, you have to find someone to change with you.

Your cohort has 70 students

wow thank you SO much for this information! it's so hard finding anything online. What are the hours for lab and clinical? And are clinicals on the weekend sometimes?
