Hello all!! I know that others have asked about these two schools already, but they were kind of old. Does anyone know about these two schools regarding their LVN program?? I recently went to Gurnick to an information session, but would like to hear from current or past students about their experience there. Any SJVC students or past students i would like your feedback as well. Good or bad is fine with me. = )
Thanks!!
OOps sorry for the small print!

I didnt go to either of these schools so I cant give personal advice about what its like. However, I know theyre both private schools that cost $25,000 or more just to become an LVN. Looking at the pass rate for gurnick: I would run AWAY from that school and FAST.
SJVC is a bit more reputable but still very expensive, and they dont offer the LVN program at their Fresno campus, Its only in Visalia (take into consideration gas money back and forth for over a year if you live far)
Also consider the harsh reality that you may not find a job as a nurse to make those student loan payments once you do graduate AND if you want to go back to get your RN, the debt will just keep piling up! IF you find a job, your paycheck will be spent on loans before you can even deposit it..
If I were you I would look into the adult schools. I went to Fresno adult school and just graduated this month. The program has a good reputation and great pass rates, plus it cost about $2,000 to maybe 3,000 and no wait list, the first time I applied I got in. They also use ATI throughout the program to prepare you for taking state boards. Also look at Clovis adult
i would have to agree with you on all that you said. i went to fresno adult school some time ago when i first moved to cali in '08'. i was told i would have to do cna first which was fine but at the time they also told me there was a long waiting list to get into the cna program. me being new to cali at the time i didnt really think to research to see what other schools had a cna program. i will look into both, thanks for your feedback!!

If you are still wanting to do a CNA program, West Hills in Lemoore has a 9-week course that I was considering for a while. Much much cheaper than the LVN programs and you can get certified fast (only 2 months!), get some nursing experience and earn some money while waiting to get your LVN.
I am starting at SJVC March 5. I've been going there for testing, to orientation and to a CPR class for months so I think I have an idea of what it's like to go there, but once classes officially start, I can get back to you. So far, it seems like it's going to be a good experience, and the teachers/advisors/everyone are all really helpful with anything you need. They provide all your testing, pay for your physical, blood tests, TB test and vaccines, etc., get you your books, a backpack, stethoscope, almost everything you need for free. I am not sure if all private schools do this but it's nice! Since you are paying so much, it's really nice to have most of your supplies provided for you.
SJVC gets a lot of bad reviews but so far I've had a good experience. I would definitely recommend it, especially since it's accelerated and you can start working fast. I don't know much about Gurnick, but SJVC starts you doing clinicals 6 weeks into the program and you get a LOT of clinical experience while you're still in school. SJVC is also really committed to helping find you a job right after graduation and they let you use their career services for the rest of your life if you need to.
My class is starting soon, so I don't think they are starting a new class for at least a few months, but I would definitely consider West Hills for CNA and give SJVC a call after that.
Hi Irebman!!! Actually i beat u to it lol i already called SJVC = ). I go up there on March 5th so you will be there but in class. I been keeping up with them for a year now trying to decide on what i wanted to do, but I do know what you mean by helping get jobs their placement % was pretty high. Plz do keep in touch me as much as you can so u can share your journey with me. I have also called and talked to west hills so i am still considering them. Thats great that you got all that you needed to begin school. How was the test???
Thanks for your reply!!!
