I go to Conemaugh school of nursing. My friend just failed out and is now enrolled at GJVT. What exactly did you want to know?

Hi. I'm currently an LPN looking to continue to RN. I would like to know of anyones experience with the Conemaugh School of Nursing. Thank you for any information.

I'm an LPN currently enrolled at Conemaugh school of nursing to get my RN. I"m really learning at conemaugh. From what I've heard from other students, conemaugh is one of the toughest schools in the area. There is a lot of paperwork that is required, making it extremely time consuming. I think all of the instructors are very caring and have a great deal of knowledge in a wide variety of subjects. Please let me know what specific questions you have and I'll be happy to answer them. I will be graduating in June 2009.

Thanks for your reply!

Here are a few random questions:

Are all of the classes taught at the Conemaugh site (or just the nursing classes/clinical rotations), or do you have to attend the community college as well (for classes such as anatomy/physiology, pharm, psych, etc)?

Do you know if there is a waiting list to attend or if it's generally easy to be accepted?

Why did you personally choose to attend Conemaugh SON instead of other local colleges such as Mount Aloysius, etc?

Thank you for sharing your experiences and opinions.

Conemaugh School of Nursing had over 500 applicants last year and only a little over 100 were accepted. I had no problem getting in, but my sister was not accepted. all ov the nursing classes are taught at the SON (school of nursing), which is across from the hospital. I'm pretty sure the A&P classes are taught at UPJ, nutrition and pharmacology are taught at the SON. And I think the english classes are taught at laurel highlands comm. college. I had all my pre and co requesits (sp) done before I started school there. I chose conemaugh because of their clinical experience. They have a lot of quality clinical experiences and I felt that would be good.

Hi,

I just graduated this year from Conemaugh SON, it was a very challenging experiance but a very good one. It is very rewarding to know that you will have more clinical time and hands on experiance than at some of the other colleges around here. To answer an above question, most all clinicals are on site (exception of Psych) and all non nursing classes are now all from Penn highlands CC. Any other questions, feel free to ask me.

Hey June 2009 i wonder if we know each other? lol lol

I'm entering my second year at Conemaugh. I didn't know many seniors this past year, but then again I'm an LPN so I only had to take adult nursing. So have you taken boards yet? Where are you going to work? Good luck to you!

I wanted to pose a question to brookeashm, or any of you have gone to Conemaugh SON. Im knew on the boards, and have mainly been to the pre nursing forum.

I have been trying, with no success, to reach someone at Conemaugh SON, with a few questions, and I really need some answers so that I can move forward with school. Im hoping that someone out here, who went to Conemaugh can help me out...

Do you need to complete Anatomy and Physiology I & II "before" you apply to Conemaugh SON? or can you take these the summer prior to fall enrollment? Im not sure of the process here. Ive heard a few different things, so Im trying to find out for sure. Should I make arrangements on my own to take these 2 classes before applying, or is this something they arrange for you to get in before starting the nursing program?

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Jamzie,

I know that you do have A&P I&II done before you start the program but I think you can apply with only having A&P I done but you must have enrolled in A&P II and plan to have it done prior to the start of class.

The reason you may be having trouble getting a hold of anyone is because there are currently no classes going on right now. We don't start again until august 25. That being said, I would think that there are some faculty in preparing for the upcomming semester.

The person who I did all my correspondence with prior to my enrolling in the program was Heather Wilt, RN. Her telephone #1-814-534-9492. I think her email is [email protected] (or possibly .com). She doesn't teach so she may not be available until class starts. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate the information.

Ill try to contact Heather Wilt and see how that goes.
