GRE scores for top FNP programs?

Not all of the top schools in the country require the GRE. I attend one of the top NP schools in the U.S. and I wasn't required to take the GRE. Check with each individual school you are planning on attending because you may not need to take the exam. In my opinion, the GRE is a waste of an exam. I was required to take it for graduate school (not nursing related) and in my opinion it doesn't necessarily predict your odds of success in a graduate program, particularly a nursing graduate program.

There is no single site with this information, but if you google around using specific school names, you can sometimes find information. For example: https://www.nursing.vanderbilt.edu/dean/2010/1010_homecoming.pdf shows the average GRE scores for the Vanderbilt 2010 incoming cohort. For what it's worth, I recently applied to three direct-entry FNP programs. Flat out rejected from Yale, waitlisted at Duke, and accepted at University of Southern Maine. Those first two are considered top schools. USM is not. My scores were 170 Verbal, 155 Quantitative, and 4.5 Writing.

I don't think the GRE is the most important factor but it's nice to have a good score if you are applying to top schools. I got 167 V and 157 Q, 5.0 AW. I think this helped me since I was applying to PMHNP programs directly from my nursing undergrad with no experience. I spent quite a few hours studying the GRE math before taking the exam and I don't regret it. I was admitted at Yale, OHSU, UT-Austin and BC. However, I think my relevant research, work and volunteer experience along with a strong undergrad GPA was probably the bulk of the reason why I was accepted. Good luck!

Hi! I was accepted to UT- Austin and UT- Houston. My GRE score 309. As the previous poster said, acceptance is a mixture of your experiences, references, GPA/GRE, etc. Best of luck!!
