Hi Everyone,

I am sorry if this has been asked before. But could you please share your experiences with GRE. How you studied for it e.g. took a class? book that really helped? etc. I am seriously at loss as to where to begin and I would appreciate any input. I wish I could be in your shoes already but I am working hard to get there!

Hi Everyone,

I took the GRE a couple of years ago and bought several books to study. The best book I bought was "GRE fro Dummies." It had questions that were word for word from the test. I bought a Kaplan also and it had a lot of information that you didn't need. The only good thing about the Kaplan book was it came with a CD that was in the exact format as the test. It gave you practice taking the test by computer in the correct format.

I liked "Crash Course For the GRE; The last-minute guide to scoring high" by The Princeton Review, and "Barron's Pass Key to the GRE Test". The GRE folks send a CD-ROM in the mail that you can use for practice, once you register to take the test.

I'll have to second that recommendation about "GRE for Dummies". I used it the second time I took the test and my score came up about 200 points and my writing .5 point. If you're like me, you'll need some refresher on geometry. The book points out tricks used on the test that make problems look harder than they really are. The reason for this is that your analytical skills are being tested, not how well you can solve a quadratic equation. You'll need to know basic formulas. You'll be tested on vocabulay, reading comprehension and writing also. The test is timed so pace yourself. I scored low the first time because I spent too much time on problems and ran out of time. Good luck!!
