Grand Nursing Theory

I'm completely stuck for the following question and would appreciate some insight. What is the importance (historical and practical) of Grand/Global Theories in Nursing?

At first, I was questioning why we would incorporate grand theories if they cannot be directly tested. It seemed somewhat scary to me that we would implement theories into our practice that have never been proven (especially when we are dealing with the health of our patients)! However, I feel as though they are important in nursing because they include many other theories in order to“explain broad issues within a discipline.
