I am currently attending Western Governors University but I'm not particularly happy. I wasn't told about the 90 hour community health practicum required in my interview and I specifically asked about any outside research or clinical hours. If I didn't work M-F 8-5 it might not be a big deal but I live in a small county and most things are closed on the weekend. My question is does GCU require any outside research? If so, how many hours? Thanks!

Hi!
No, there is no practicum per se. You do have to chose a topic in community health and teach in the community. It could be at a senior center, day care (one person did hand washing).
There are two very active threads that talk about GCU. I graduated in May of 2014 and am proud to be a Lope. :)

Hi, confirming PP's comment above. The only outside requirement is that one assignment. I chose to do a presentation to my mother's biblestudy group about the importance of keeping a healthy weight status. The whole thing was maybe 60 minutes. Someone in my class did a presentation to her church youth group on melanoma/importance of sunscreen and regular skin checks, etc. and someone else did a handwashing gig for 1st/2nd graders. It was pretty laid back, I stressed way more than I needed to and it was over in a flash.
That's not to say the class itself isn't a toughy, but the outside community assignment obligation was negligible.
