I applied this week for GCU ACNP online program for the 11/2016 start date. Has anyone else applied, received an interview or acceptance for November? Any information would be much appreciated.

Specializes in GENERAL.

Well missyccrn, I am no fan of the "for profits" but their long history of skullduggery is for you to reseach. As a matter of documented fact, (collegescorecard.edu.gov), GCU's under grad division is very expensive with low sub-par grad and retention rates. Graduate program no info. With this said you should know that it is a business enterprise that receives up to 90% of its tuition receipts from federally backed student loans. Schools like this one spend more money on marketing than on actual per capita student education. Lots of issues with these schools that don't make it past their potemkin-like glitz and smoke and mirrors appproach to what they like to call "making their enrollment numbers."

As for any NP program you must know that unless you nail down the clinical preceptor problem up-front, before you begin the program, you will be in big trouble after spending lots of money and time on preliminary pre-clinical coorifice-work. Have a school put their promises in writing because they can be very deceptive about this issue. Allnurse.com cyperspace is replete with the plantive requests of students looking most often in vain for these clinical sites. This to me has been the most well kept secret in NP education and much to the infamy of nurse educators and nursing in general.

So while no school is perfect, really vet all schools to the max. And stay away from anything called University of Phoenix or South University (which are in your area) because they are the poster boys and prototypes for the scam, for profit, loan mills posing as post secondary education going on in this country; and not quite before our eyes; but then again, they like it that way.

Just be so careful of anyone who sells you a bill of goods. They smile, are soft spoken, sympathetic and claim to understand your dreams and hopes and aspirations and need to fed your family because they will say that they too were where you are now; but with the next breath try to sell you a bridge in Brooklyn.

Remember colleagues be your own best friend and you'll have no one to blame but youself for earnestly trying to do well in life and honestly take care of your own business. And if I hear one more person tell me accreditation from CCNE means s flip, I'm going to jump in the Grand Canyon!
