I graduated 20 yrs ago and failed NCLEX-RN. So...here I am today, garbage in my life behind me, consequently much more focused. I have never given up on my dream! I have been advised by my Nursing Board in state of Washington to take the NCLEX-PN first, work as an LPN, and at some time in the future, take the NCLEX-RN. The Board is also going to help me find a mentor. Sounds like a plan! I am reviewing Kaplan NCLEX-PN (2010) and find it very useful. But, YEEK! I feel I should be using more reviews. Any and all advise is appreciated. Thanks! :bowingpur

I can relate...I graduated 16 years ago, and failed NCLEX, probably due to the fact a was a single mom of quadruplet baby girls, and going thru a divorce...too much on my plate at the time.NowI am 45 yrs old, much wiser and I am going back to school from scratch. I have to take a CNA course before I am even considered, for the program.which I think is good because I'm sure the face of nursing has changed so much since 1993. I am taking the LPN course and plan to pass the NCLEX-PN, work a while, and then retake NCLEX-RN. My college has accepted all my prereq's so it should only take a year.God Bless you in your future in Nursing! I just wanted to tell you.. it is encouraging to know I'm not alone :)

I want to say goooooood luck!! I my self took the pn exam once over 10 years ago and didnt pass I always wanted to be a nurse therefore now i am studying to pass the board again. I also spoke with my board and they encourage refresher classes so i will be looking for some refresher classes in georgia or alabama.........KEEP THE FAITH

congrats to you all keep up the faith i graduated 13 years ago and after failing 2 i gave up and was feaerful raised 3 children now the longest is ten i still have a deep desire for nursing want to retake nlex you guys inspire me. i need to find refresher course can anyone help??/

omg i really feal the same way. i graduated from nursing school with a 3.4 average 4 1/2 yrs ago. I took the nclex and failed and subsequently have not attempted to take it again for fear of failing and also the cost. I just continue thinking though that im 25 and that was my career choice and instead of practicing im working in factories. How can i measure up to someday be a parent if i cant even pass a silly test? plus where do i even begin to start studying? im lost and advice would be appreciated.

THAT'S GREAT WHAT STEPS DID U HAVE TO TAKE? what state did u test?

just wanted to check your progress,,

I was so glad to come across your post. I graduated in 1998 with a BSN and never passed my NCLEX after 3 attempts. Now in 2011 I am going to do an LPN Program to get back into nursing then sit for the NCLEX RN when I feel comfortable. If you don't mind please show how things went for you. Thanks in advance!

okay not sure that you checked but I graduated with certificate in practical nursing in 2003. Took nclex 4 times and couldn't pass. New York, Nebraska, and North Dakota doesnt have a limit how many times you take the test nor do they have a limit how long ago you finished school. I have submitted for new york I will let you know what I find out.

Please keep me posted

The NCLEX-PN, tests entry-level practice of practical/vocational nursing. No matter where I work, I will be supervised by an RN. I was instructed by the Board to take the NCLEX-PN rather than the RN. Additionally, I have been a certified Addiction Counselor for 15 years, consequently it's not like I have been out of the medical arena.

Really? I can tell you that my "entry level' practice LVN program was rough....my program has a 100% pass rate on the nclex.

EVERY LVN will be supervised by a RN. That is not a failsafe. You need to still have the knowledge to do the job of an LVN. I do think it's good you worked in healthcare but being a addiction counselor is WAY different than being a nurse....LVN or RN. I'm pretty  that they are letting you just test after 20 yrs out of the field.

Kind of a slap in the face to those of us who have been in school for years getting our pre reqs and having to retake our A&P requirements because they expire after 5-7 yrs (depending on the school)...but you can be a nurse after just taking the test?! That is just crazy. A LOT has changed in 20 yrs in nursing but I sure havn't seen them discover any new bones! You may not like it but your going to be hard pressed to find many who would agree that is a wise decision on their part. Sorry but that's the reality

Good for you!!!! I recently failed 4th semester of my nursing program but had the option of "stepping out" for my LPN so I did and received my LPN in March of this year. When I took the NCLEX for LPN I used Saunders and really found it easy to use. I passed it with flying colors!!

Good luck to you :)

Hi there, I too graduated 20 years ago failed NCLEX and want to re-take in the state of Washinton. So far on all my practice exams I am averaging 73% (just started) and have worked in Assisted living, home health (as a supervisor), Head Start (health manager), as a MA in peds, internal medicine and infectious disease, urology, and psych.... It is my understanding that after receiving your BSN the only test I am able to take is the NCLEX-RN and am not able to take the exam for LPN etc. I am excited to try again and yes there will be lots of studying involved...
