I have a friend of mine that had graduated from a very prestigious school with her BSN 8 years ago. She has taken the NCLEX-RN and had failed it 3 times. She's currently working full-time not as a nurse, but as a surgical tech. She has to support her kids and she's aware of the refresher course but due to time contraints she can't do it. She doesn't want to quit her job either. Is there another route, something online even, she could possibly take into account?

She wouldn't qualify for an RN refresher course, since they require one to hold or to have formerly held a nursing license.
Your state BON can advise her on what course of study wold be required to become eligible for NCLEX given the long period of time that has passed since she graduated. They may allow her to devise some kind of independent study program.

I just took the NCLEX today, 11 years out of nursing school. I left the profession 8 years ago, and I let my license lapse. I was very overwhelmed at first with the idea of studying ALL THAT INFO again. I signed up with Kaplan at the suggestion of a friend, and it was like going to nursing school again. I took the live question review session, and then studied online over a span of 3 months. I liked the live experience, but I think the online resources were even better for someone like me who had to relearn alot of basic knowledge. I feel really good about how I did, and feel pretty confident that I passed. Fingers crossed!
If your friend can take the time to review all of the video lectures, the video review of questions, and then answer the thousands of questions in the Qbank and Question Trainers, she should be prepared. It took me weeks to plow through all those videos, but I think it was worth it.

There are online review courses. NRSKaren lists some of them in a post in a thread similar to this. Your friend needs to decide upon a course of action to prepare for the test and go forward. She can pass this test if she remains persistent. The only way she will fail is if she stops trying.
