Grad Class Celebration

My graduating class is small and we're hoping to have a class celebration after grad. I (stupidly) volunteered to take charge in planning and have asked several times to see what the class wants to do, but no one is suggesting anything, only saying no to the suggestions that the profs and I make. :crying2: So frustrating!!

Does anyone have any ideas? I was hoping for a breakfast so we could be with our families for supper, but the ceremony ended up being scheduled in the morning so that won't work. The other suggestion was supper, but no one can agree on the specifics and several people want family but some of us have huge families and can't choose who to invite so it could get to be way too much. Grrr.

Thanks in advance!

What about just a nice reception after the ceremony? You can have cake and punch, or some light snacks or something. That way, you don't have to bother with making reservations or getting an exact head count. And since it's not a "sit-down" event, everyone can bring their families and just stand around and chat and snack.

Along similar lines to what RNTutor said - my program's graduation ceremony is traditionally in the late morning, and since families usually plan something like a nice lunch right after that makes a reception impractical, we have a champagne toast at the end of the ceremony. There is also sparkling white grape juice available for those who choose not to drink alcohol for whatever reason.

(One of the nice things about a masters-entry program is that all the students will be of age by the time graduation rolls around, if not sooner.)

"Supper"?

LOL!

Who says that? It's dinner! ;)

No, no suggestions, either. :(

No - Dinner is the main meal of the day, whether it is eaten at luncheon or supper. In modern society, the tradition is to eat dinner at supper except on major holidays, but this was not always the case. The first example of lunch-as-dinner that pops to mind at this late hour is the early Boxcar Children books that were written by the original author of the series, though I'm sure there are many others.

Well there will be a reception for all the graduates (I think we're graduating with all the health science students), but my class wants something above and beyond this for just us :uhoh3:

Haha I'm in Ontario where the drinking age is 19 and the program is 4 years so even those of us straight from high school have been legal for at least a few years now!

Even if there's a 'big' reception, you could also do a little reception just for your class before or after the ceremony. That way it can be a little more personal, rather than hanging out with all the other health science students that you never had time to get to know during nursing school :p

It wasn't after graduation, but after our first year (precisely one hour after we finished our last final of the year) most of us...well 40+ of us out of just over 50 went white water rafting, then had a cook out/bonfire.

It was a lot of fun. :D

Although I understand if y'all want something a bit more sedate *wine*
