GPA for Air Force

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in my first semester of nursing school and find myself overwhelmed with all of the information....so my grades are suffering a little bit and I see myself getting at most a B, maybe a C in my current two classes. I have a lot of A's from previous classes, but do not have a perfect 4.0. By next summer when I start my application with the Air Force I feel like my GPA will be somewhere between 3.3 and 3.5. My question is, could this possibly hurt my chances of being selected by the Air Force? For some reason I feel like you have to be at least close to a 4.0 to be selected. Anyone know how much they look at your overall GPA, or did anyone out there get in with a GPA similar to mine?

are you trying for AFROTC, or do you want to go to COT after you graduate? I'm in AFROTC while getting my BSN right now and they do look at your GPA to get scholarships and to be selected for Field training, but generally your 3.3-3.5 GPA should be good! I don't have that, and I will be commissioning in a year.

In general the Air Force likes a GPA above 3.0. A variety of factors go into selection for the AF, so be sure continue to work on things such as volunteering, leadership opportunities, in addition to keeping your grades up.

Thank you both so much for your responses...I appreciate it. Dabears54, at one point I wanted to go for AFROTC, but because my college has us start our junior year in the summer (our junior year is three semesters long) I was told it wouldn't be possible for me to do AFROTC because field training is in the summer. So I am hoping to go to COT after I graduate.

IowaRNBSN, what kind of leadership opportunities do they like?....I don't really have any leadership experience right now, and honestly with the way things are going right now I'm not sure I could take on something like that and keep my grades up....do you usually have to have leadership experience to be selected?
