Question: Do all accelerated BSN programs have a min GPA of 3.0? My undergrad GPA was a 2.85, but my GPA of the prerequisites is a 3.5. I was unfocused early in my undergrad career and my school was pretty competitive, plus I was busy with athletics (excuses, I know, but I can handle grad school if I know what I want to do). Do BSN programs look at something other than GPA when applying that I could use to help me?
Second question: When applying for a Masters in Nursing, can you use your accelerated BSN GPA to get in? Basically, Im hoping to get into an accelerated BSN program and then go to grad school to become an NP, but I don't think my undergrad GPA will cut it. Thank you all so much, I am so glad I found this forum-it has really helped me.

For my program, they took your undergrad GPA OR your prereq. GPA, so I went with my prereq GPA, because my undergrad was a 2.9. I think they understand that we may not have been quite as focused in our younger years, lol.
My program also looked at volunteer experience or any other experience in health care but it wasn't necessary because it is geared toward ppl with no nursing/hospital/healthcare experience.
Question 2: my husband is a recruiter for graduate schools and he says typically it's your last 60 hours that they focus on although they may want to see your entire GPA....but that's for his area so it could be different in other places.
Hope that helps! Good luck

My undergrad GPA was 2.8. My prereq GPA was 4.0. I had 2.5 yrs EMT-Basic experience as an emergency department tech. I graduated from and accelerated BSN program last December.
So in my experience, I would say for you to go for it!

Hello ersbears!
I am in an accelerated BSN program now. When I enrolled in my program I was under the impression that my gpa would somewhat "start over"...I was wrong! My gpa from my previous degree has been factored into my cumulative gpa. I, too, would like to attend grad school based on my ABSN gpa, but for some reason I feel like my gpa from my first degree will continue to haunt me like it has. I know this really isn't an answer to your question, but I just wanted you to know that your overall gpa on your transcript (after completing an accelerated BSN) will be a combination of both gpa's...at least that's how my school does it.
Britt!
I'm in the same predicament, but it's because i am getting my ABSN at the same place that i received my first undergrad degree. I, too, feel like i will be haunted forever by what i did in my much younger days. everyone else in my program that graduated from a different college got to start over with a 0.0 gpa, which really sucks, especially since i just made a 4.0 for my first semester in the program, but cumulatively, not so much. anyway, hopefully we'll both get in to grad school. just glad to know someone else is in the same boat!
