Hey all,
Just looking for some information about working for the department of the army as a civilian nurse. I have always wanted to travel overseas and really "see" europe and thought this would be a good way to do so. I have filled out a resume on the Dept of Army website (we'll see how quick I get a response). So, now just looking for some advice or someone who is doing this too. Looking foreward to going to Europe..meeting some new people..seeing the sights.
cheerfuldoer: did you work with the 34th general hospital in Augsburg? If so, when and where at in the hospital? I worked on D2 (med-surg floor) from end of 1989 to 1991.
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I don't always visit the site as often as I used to do to work and other life drama going on. :uhoh21:
Anyhoo....I did not work as a nurse in Germany due to the downsizing which I stated in one of my other postings on this thread. When we arrived in Augsburg, civilian nurses were already being handed their pink slips because of the downsizing there. We arrived in Germany in the Fall of 1991, and loved it!:)

I'm very glad I came across this website. I am an RN and am planning to move to Germany in 2 years so my husband can do research. I have been very worried because I was not sure if I could work (I don't speak German) until a coworker suggested I do civilian nursing at an Army base. Do you have suggestions as to where to look for the jobs, what I need to do for applications, where to find all info (pay, housing, insurance, etc), anything else that might help? It feels like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders knowing I can still work overseas. We both love traveling (Germany especially) so this might offer future locations of travel/living abroad after he's done researching in Germany. How exciting! Thanks for all your suggestions and let me know how the process is going for you!
