Hey All!

I am planning on joining the Air Force once I am done with school but now I have been thinking about the Navy as well. The one problem with that is I really want to be psych/mental health nurse once I am done with school. I know that the Air Force and Army specifically say Mental Health nurse on their website and on their information. However, I have never seen that mentioned in any of the Navy material. Does the Navy have mental health nursing like the Air Force does or not?

Thanks!

Hi luvbug,

I have just recently started the application process for the Navy Nurse Corps and my interest area is psychiatry. The recruiter I've been working with has told me that they do offer psychiatry as a specialty area in the Navy. You can find a list of the specialties in the Navy at http://www.navy.com/careers/healthcare/nursing/#nurse-specialties (I don't know if I can post links as a new member) and they have Nursing Psychiatry listed :)

I was considering the Air Force as well but with AF you have to be in Med-Surg for at least a year before you're allowed to specialize.

Hope this helps.

Oh wow thank you! I must have been blind every time I have looked for those simple words on their website.

Don't forget Public Health. USPHS I believe they want a year of mental health experience as well.
