I want to be an Army nurse!

I am a LPN my mos will be 91wm6. I graduated in feb and have not been satisfied with the nursing experience I am getting, I have had two jobs so far and in both my main purpose is/was passing medications. I really want to use the knowledge I have from school. I also want to join because when I see pictures or watch the news I want to help. So that is why I want to join. Here are my fears, or things people tell me.

1.Will I really get the experience I am looking for?

2.Am I too old? I am 23

3.Will I be worked to death and have no time for friends or relationships?

4.Will I been able to work on getting my RN while enlisted?

5.If a first duty station and mos are in my contract could the Army break the contract?

6.Would the Army be able to not give me the gi bill college money after I get out?

The Army is something I really want to do but almost everyone I tell says it is a bad decision. Please answer what you can. I really want to hear views of people who are in.

There is one more week before my packet goes before the Fort Knox review and I have such curiousity and concern over it that I have to force myself to be patient and to wait. I hear that once it goes before the board that it takes 30-45 days to find out.

Gennaver,

My recruiter told me it would be a month or so too, but, as it turned out, the very next week after was when I found out I had been accepted. Here's hoping your wait will be just as short and I wish you and feb06 the best of luck in your endeavors to join up.

Hello and Thank you Eric,

I hope so. However I just found out today that one of my 195 forms are not in, :( darn, hopefully that person will get on the ball, the 3rd of October is waaay close.

Also, there is another glitzch too. Apparently even though I am in my final academic year towards my entry to nursing degree, (comparable to a senior BSN student) it seems that it may not be accepted when all is said and done because it is a masters entry to nursing.

I tried to explain to my recruiter that he could point out that demanding an Masters entry to nursing nurse have a BSN is like demanding that a Bachellors entry to nursing student have an ADN.

He did say to hang on that it wasn't refused yet. In the past he had told me that this degree was just getting recognized and that there was a chance they'd take me as a nurse candidate. However, now that it is getting close for some reason, there is debate about it.

Sigh,

trying to stay calm,

When do you take the NCLEX for your RN?

Hello Corvette Guy,

I am nine months away from program completion and graduation, we take the NCLEX about a month after that.

Still stressin',

p.s. I would be comparable to a senior BSN student yet, my entry will be MSN generalist, (it is recognized governmentally for the public health nursing requirements as a MSN with no prequalifying bachellor's just as a BSN is recognized with no prequalifying Diploma or Associate's).

I'm very confused about your situation! I know of ANC officers that came in with a MSN degree. In fact, you'd be at an advantage since an MSN is a requirement to be promotable to LTC, or higher.

Hi CorvetteGuy,

I am feeling very conflicted too.

Possibly its because I am trying to go in as a Nurse candidate, (my final year and then I would start as a brand new nurse graduate similar to other new nurse candidates but with the MSN completed already).

Originally my recruiter said that it was new but accepted, now he is telling me that he has to "fight" with Fort Knox and isn't sure this will work.

:(

Darn, wonder what the problem is.

I am grateful that you are here and replying and offering your posts of support CorvetteGuy, Thanks.

I don't know the username, but lately someone posted in the Military Nursing Forum that is actually an AHC Recruiter. Maybe do a search for such individual, then send him a PM about your situation. Good luck!
