I am a hopeful graduate in May of an ADN program. In the fall I will begin an RN to BSN program, as long as all goes well with passing NCLEX (fingers crossed!). I am really considering working for the DOD so I wondered if any one here is a DOD nurse and can share some info with me. I would love to livein Germany again I spent some time there in the early 90's, my Ex-Husband was in the army, and I would love the oppurtunity to live there again. I am leaning toward OB or the OR right now the only two places that felt like they could be "home" in my vast nursing school experiences thus far lol! So I am looking at starting DOD employment in 2-3 years with as BSN and that much nursing experience. I would prefer to work on a military base. So what can you tell me about DOD life. Can I use PX and commissary is military housing avaliable to DOD peopleas well? How do you read the pay charts on the website what grade are RN's ? Thanks for sharing with me!

Specializes in US Army.

The DOD RNs are usually a GS-10 or GS-11, depending on the job responsibilities such as charge nurse etc, etc.

Best place to look for DOD nursing jobs is: http://www.usajobs.gov/

Good luck.

GS means the general schedule in the pay charts?
