Got a C In Sociology. Will it really matter?

Published

I just finished another semester at my community college. I graduated with an AA in Psychology, because it was originally what I planned to do. I was taking the course to fulfill the requirement for the degree, while taking Chem to go towards my nursing pre req classes. I just found out that I got a C, which really bummed be out, as I have received all A's, aside from two B's on my entire transcript over the last 2.5 years. Now that I've done more research into what else you need for nursing school, I see that some schools require sociology...Which makes me nervous because I got a C in it. However, my overall GPA is nearly a 3.9.

I guess my question is, should I be worried? I only have Micro bio, Anatomy and Physiology left to take, and then I am ready to apply. For the schools that do require Sociology, will it really be a deciding factor if my overall GPA is still a 3.8-3.9? Also, what about other Social Sciences? I have other courses that fulfill that requirement with higher grades.

I'm mostly bummed out to get a C in sociology, but this semester was the hardest on me by far, in terms of work load, and my personal life. I also had to focus on my Chem grade, which I am so close to getting an A in. I'm venting and looking for what other people think.

Thanks!

I doubt the C in sociology will harm you. At the same time, it's sort of a "blow off" class which makes me scared for your ability to get high grades in your hard sciences. Every school looks for different things, but high grades in the hard sciences are usually important. Just make sure you get As in anatomy and micro.

Retake it if it becomes a problem; those introductory classes are your easy A's.

The programs I've looked at chooses the applicable course with the highest score to fill the broad prereq requirement. So, if you had Gen Psych with an A and Sociology with a C, they'd take the Gen Psych. So, you can probably call the programs themselves and see if that's their policy as well.

The grade mainly suffered because I focused so much on my Chem class. I figured that was more important, but Had I known that some schools require that class, I would not have taken so much attention off of it. I assumed it only applied to my AA in Psych. Definitely agree that's not the right way to go about taking classes, but my personal life suffered greatly as well. I am learning a ton and now know better, but it doesn't change the fact that it happened. If it becomes a problem I will retake, though now after some thought I'm not super worried about it. I have other courses that are Social Sciences that have B's and A's, so I will make sure they take those. Any other input is great! Thanks everyone!
