Please, Please, Please. help. I am just wondering if anyone out there has a sample letter that they wrote to individual CRNA programs before getting in that helped them inquire of the program and helped you show the program that you have great interest in attending their institution. Also, I recently just became an RN in March 2006. I am currently working the the CVICU at my hospital and I really want to go to CRNA school. I want to try to read some CRNA course books before even applying. If you have any good suggestions on books, please don't hesistate to list it.

To be honest with you many CRNA school get so many applications and forms mailed to them that if you sent this letter some time like a yr or even less it prob. would do much good. Many programs though sure not all dont even start a folder for you until they are have certain required application forms filled out to start their database. SO chances are it may get lost or forgotten. My advice is to call or email your interest just introducing yourself, tell of your interest and maybe give a small time line to give them the heads up when you will be applying. Though it is an email you can be sure that a PD is more likely to at least glance at it. Phone calls arent so bad but depending on what program you are wanting to go PD's will be busy either in class, the OR or meetings so it may be hard to get them but voice mail is never bad. Most programs have the majority of their info online. I would learn as much as you can their and on forums like this. Just ask someone here about that specific program, chances are there are students are alums here to help.
Just learn as much as you can and progress as fast as you can as a RN. When you feel ready take the sickest of the sick pts that they will let you, take devices and dont be afraid to jump into the mix when the shiznit is hitting the fan. These are the situations that you learn a ton. I would just stick with critical care nursing texts for now and get that down b/f you jump into anesthesia texts. Since you are in CVICU try the Manuel or Perioperative Cardiothoracic Surgery. Its written by Surgeons and others so not filled with all the Nursing mumbo jumbo we all hate. Its pretty good and help me as a new grad in CVICU.
Check out other threads on this forum. Pre reading texts have been talked about alot, even this week actually. Good luck, holler if you need.

Just write the truth and how you really feel. If you are motivated and excited about going to school and becoming a CRNA, express that in your letter. Don't try to BS anybody, they will probably see right through it.
