I am just curious to know what are some good questions to ask a prospective employer? The main reason being: not getting into a bad job like I hear about so much on this site.

I'd want to know what they do when it comes to discipling others at the facility. Do they state they have a policy but when it comes down to it they just want a warm body so they can say they are staffed appropriately. There's nothing worse than being told by my manager when I'm making up the assignment that nurse so and so can't take a certain vip as a patient. That is just wrong!!! The same people are late over and over and over yet management says nothing to them. There is nothing worse than wanting to go home and having the next shift show up late yet again.
As far as ratios there is nothing worse than when they say we staff based on acuity. That is their way of beating around the bush so they don't have to say well on tele you get 8 patients. I don't want to hear about acuity I want to know how it really is because every facility has a different idea of staffing based on acuity.
Oh and just because a place has self scheduling doesn't mean you really get to self schedule. The place I am currently at has a great self scheduling system but I know other people who don't have that luxury and can even request a certain day off and not get it.
