Good Manhattan hospitals and travel agency?

Published

Hi, I have been a travel nurse for 3 years and am looking to head to New York City at the end of August. Does anyone have recommendations to which hospital I should choose and which travel company? Any suggestions would help!

Thanks!

Lauren

as far as travel companies I would recommend cross country. As far as hospitals, the majority of them are wonderful. I worked at NYU for years and it was fantastic. I heard Mt. Sinai is good (I was a patient there for appendix surgery) but I believe it is very busy. Lenox Hill is a smaller, more low-key....maybe a good place to start for you. Id recommend that as your first NYC assignment. NYC is unlike working anywhere else in the country. Id also recommend staying away from Columbia/Cornell for your first assignment unless you are really brave. Those patients are super sick and they do all kinds of crazy state of the art procedures.

I currently travel with Medical Express a branch of american mobile. I have had a pretty good experience with them. Pay is average, housing has been really nice, assignment locations have been good experiences. I have a great recruiter. Whichever company you decide to travel with, remember this, if your recruiter isn't listening or meeting your needs...find another recrutier. That can make a huge difference. All companies are going to have a good/bad side. It may take you a couple of tries before finding the right one for you. Also, when looking at different hospitals and area info travelnursehelp.com has alot of good information about hopsitals, crime statistics, and things to do in the area. Good luck with your travels! Hope you have a great time!
